Different Roof Types for Your Home

Knowing the different types of roofs can help you decide the best new roof for your home. You want something that is durable but also aesthetically pleasing. Today’s roofing materials can also be environmentally friendly and help your home to produce natural power. Let’s talk more about this.

Solar Tile Roof

Solar roof tiles can be part of your home’s roofing system in order to harness the power of the sun. These tiles integrate with the existing shingles to draw in solar energy. If you live in an area with a ton of sun, consider solar roof tiles to save money on your energy bill.

Asphalt Shingle Roof

The most common residential roof type out there is the asphalt shingle roof. These shingles provide a protective layer over the underlying roofing materials and are designed to be fire-retardant and weather-resistant. They are also quite affordable for those on a budget.

Metal Roof

Many industrial and commercial spaces have metal roofs. One reason why is that they last a very long time; 50 to 70 years to be exact. Metal roofs are also fire-resistant and can handle rain, snow, and wind. The caveat is the metal roof is quite noisy when it is raining cats and dogs.

Stone-Coated Steel Roof

The nice thing about a stone-coated steel roof is the tiles are metal but they look like clay, shingles, or slate. This roof type is also designed to handle heavy winds and rain. It can even stand up to hail, whether falling straight down or blowing upward in a severe storm.

Slate Roof

If you are looking for longevity, serious longevity, consider a slate roof. Slate is such a durable material that roofs made out of it can last over a century. That’s right. One hundred years or more. The only downside to slate is it can be very costly to get a roof made of this material.

Tile Roof

Different from a solar tile roof, a tile roof is made from clay or concrete tiles. These tiles are heavy, so your home needs to be sturdy. They are excellent at standing up to outdoor elements, including severe storms and winds. The tiles are affordable but more expensive than shingles.
